I began teaching empowerment self-defense at the University of Oregon in 2015. I have trained former students to become ESD workshop leaders at UO. I learned about NWMAF from my mentor, Jocelyn Hollander. Being at a NWMAF Conference is a powerful experience that has enhanced my life in many ways. Connecting with the brilliant people at conferences inspires me. I have no doubt that I am a better teacher because of my experiences through NWMAF. The pedagogical tools that I have learned from NWMAF help support my students who have experienced trauma and informed my teaching to have an intersectional lens. And some of the tools I have learned are FUN!
I've been teaching yoga since 2000. Some of my favorites modalities to teach are pranayama (yoga breathing techniques) and gentle/restorative Hatha yoga postures while sharing the wisdom of yoga philosophy. I currently teach Wellness Techniques in Yoga at UO. I also work as a yoga therapist with cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients at PeaceHealth.
I am currently interested in how to bring ESD tools into healthcare. I see how healthcare providers are experiencing high rates of harassment and violence.

- I'd loke to know more about what work others in NWMAF are doing to provide ESD skills to healthcare providers.
