Dr. Liesha Petrovich, DBA, MSHE (she/hers)
I'm a Kyokushin black belt with 30 years of teaching in Western Maine. I created an All-Girl Karate Club five years ago to help girls speak up when it matters most. Our club has evolved to include a Women's Club, and it's the best work I've done in my life.
We do things differently in our Be Fierce Self-Defense program. Our foundation is the Triad Theory of Empowerment. Our motto and guiding principle are "Find Your Voice". We work to empower our students to speak up everywhere they are, not just against "a bad guy in a dark alley."
As a professor and instructor in higher education, my research also empowers women. My research focuses on empowering self-employed women and highlights the lack of support for women globally.

- Self defense
- Healing arts
- One of my proudest moments was when a student messaged me to tell me she stood up for herself at work. This is a shy, timid woman with little self-confidence, and she was about to quit her job. Instead, she spoke up and forced a positive change.
- Unfortunately, some experience violence in the home. One student has a mentally ill teenage daughter who routinely attacks her. While her daughter is bigger than her, we coached her on boundaries, the importance of self-care, and how to defend herself in those moments. While it's been challenging because she never wants to hurt her daughter, she now defends herself and is working on self-care.

My focus is Using our Triad Theory of Empowerment, we focus on two main programs: All Girls & All Women's Be-Fierce Clubs. Our girls' club is karate-based, while our women's club has three levels, including self-defense, fitness, and foundational empowerment.
