ESD Essentials: Examining the Framework and Core Components of Empowerment Self-Defense

July 25 @ 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM CDT

NWMAF is a leader in Empowerment Self-Defense, promoting ESD as a primary violence prevention strategy and offering professional development and certification to ESD instructors. What exactly IS Empowerment Self-Defense? What distinguishes it from other types of self-defense? What are the underlying principles and essential elements of an ESD program? Nancy Lanoue, founder of Thousand Waves Martial Arts and Self-Defense Center and a pioneering teacher and leader in the Empowerment Self-Defense movement, will lead a conversation about the core components of ESD, looking at the spectrum of awareness, assertiveness, the impact of trauma and bias, internal barriers to self-advocacy, the intersectional and institutional nature of violence, and much more.

Whether you’re new to Empowerment Self-Defense, interested in being certified as an ESD instructor, or a seasoned ESD practitioner wanting to look more deeply at the ESD framework, this workshop is for you!
