Kajukenbo Repetitions: A Spontaneous Drill with Far-reaching Benefits
July 25 @ 8:00 AM - July 26 @ 1:00 PM CDT
Explore the rhythm, speed, and flow of Kajukenbo repetitions: a continuous striking drill designed to train body connection, perception, and adaptability. In this class we journey into relaxed power and stance driven strikes, creating fast, efficient combinations with less effort. Working with partners, participants will lean into and practice synchronization of the hips, core, and upper body to generate fluid, multiple strikes off a single limb and spontaneous striking and kicking sequences, while constantly staying aware of and recognizing openings and opportunities.
Intended as a drill to overwhelm the opponent through a barrage of strikes to primary and secondary self-defense targets, repetitions have far-reaching benefits and applications. The practice also cultivates presence, soft focus, and the ability to stay calm and responsive while in motion. My own practice of repetitions has elevated my readiness to see openings during sparring, as well as recognize opportunities for trapping during spontaneous punch responses. This class is an opportunity for martial artists of any style who want to practice adaptability and experience applied striking combinations as connected, intuitive, and kinetic.
