Bio

Nancy Lanoue is the founder and head instructor emerita at Thousand Waves Martial Arts & Self-Defense Center, NFP in Chicago. The non-profit Center has fostered fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking through its traditional martial arts and Empowerment Self-Defense programs since 1985.


Lanoue holds ESD teaching certifications from the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation, the International Association of ESD Professionals, and from PAVE Prevention. She has also earned certification in PAVE’s trauma-informed protocol. She is a lifetime martial artist and holds the rank of 7th degree black belt in the World Seido Karate Organization.
