Confronting the Criminalization of Women and other Marginalized People who Defend Themselves
July 25 @ 8:00 AM - July 26 @ 1:00 PM CDT
Survivors who defend themselves are often criminalized rather than supported. How did this come to be? How does the law perpetuate the criminalization of survivors? What can be done instead to promote the legitimacy of self-defense, no matter one’s identity? And what can we, as allies, do to support women and others who find themselves ensnared in the injustices of the legal system?
Diane Rosenfeld, J.D., LL.M., Founding Director of the Gender Violence Program, Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, and the author of The Bonobo Sisterhood: Revolution Through Female Alliance, will lead a conversation on self worth defending and the power of collective self-defense.
